Following a packed public meeting in December on flood problems and potential solutions in Cardigan, Natural Resources Wales has arranged two weeks of drop-in sessions to listen to residents’ concerns and receive evidence.

The sessions, to be held at the council offices on Morgan Street from January 19, will be an opportunity to assess the problems that exist with surface drainage, tidal flooding and the sewerage system, and will form part of ongoing investigations into a potential new flood relief scheme.

Elin Jones, local AM for Ceredigion, said: “I was in frequent contact with NRW and other agencies last year regarding the flooding situation in Cardigan, and I was pleased that they were able to put their proposals to the public meeting in December.

“What was clear at the meeting was that residents had valuable information which could help arrive at the right solutions to help understand why flooding is such a problem in parts of the town. The responsible agencies – NRW, Welsh Water and the County Council – need as much information as possible in order to put measures in place.

“I would urge anyone who has evidence or views on the issue to attend the drop-in sessions in Morgan Street in January.

“There’s a real opportunity now to see some badly-needed investment in flood protection. Cardigan is at the top of the agenda; this is a once in a generation opportunity to get it right.”

Sessions will be held10am to 12,30pm, and 1.30pm to 3.30pm Monday to Friday, with late sessions until 7pm on January 21 and 29.
