Mike Parker, the author and broadcaster who is standing for Plaid Cymru in the target seat of Ceredigion in next year’s General Election, has promised to shake up the complacent consensus of Westminster.
In his speech to his party’s Annual Conference, held in Llangollen, Mike Parker paid tribute to the huge impact that Plaid Cymru MPs have made on issues such as the environment, rights for the disabled, and international affairs, as well as being independent-minded advocates for their constituencies.
Mike Parker, Westminster candidate for Plaid Cymru in Ceredigion, said,
“Plaid Cymru MPs have a proud tradition of offering a different voice, and speaking up for the disadvantaged.
“Ceredigion’s Plaid MPs Cynog Dafis and Simon Thomas led the way in bringing environmental issues to wider attention, as well as being highly regarded as independent-minded advocates for our area.
“In Ceredigion, we’re being let down over the cost of living, our transport infrastructure and cuts to public services. I want to be a fresh voice – an egalitarian, radical and internationalist voice.
“Wales – and the needs of areas like Ceredigion – are only taken seriously when Plaid Cymru does well. In these difficult times, we need a distinctive voice more than ever.”
