Family and friends gathered at Hen Gapel Chapel, Aberporth on January 2, to say farewell to Jean Denton 4, Heol-y-Wylan, Aberporth who passed away on December 19.

Afterwards a short service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and her ashes will be interred with her husband at Kempston Garden Of Rest, Bedfordshire on January 29.

Jean was born in 1920, one of twins (her sister survives her in Canada), her younger sister Betty and brother Billy died several years ago.

The family was spilt up when Jean's mother was six as her mother was taken ill and the girls were given to different aunties to bring up. Billy being only a baby was sent to a children's home. Jean went to live in Birmingham with her Aunt Dorothy and during her teens they returned to Kempston to look after her father. There she worked in service to the local vicar where she saved her wages to buy a sewing machine.

Jean married David Denton on Christmas Eve 1941 and lived an active life in Kempston running the Girl Guides, Townswomens Guild and a Senior Citizens Club and having her three children.

In 1984 David died and as her daughters had moved to Cardigan she decided to sell up and moved to Aberporth in 1988.

Her bright character and excellent needlework and crafts soon got her involved with Aberporth WI and the chapel. She was a founder member of the Aberporth WI market (now Country Market) Her Friday evening sewing classes were very popular and her brilliant needlecraft won many prizes in the local shows.

A warm welcome was always to be had at her house and every visit was enriched by all her work on display there. Her smile and cheery nature especially in the last few months when she was failing were an inspiration to all she met.

Jean will be sadly missed by her son Richard, daughters Dorothy and Kate, grandchildren Peter, Helen, Ian, Mark, Kevan and Bethan great- grandchildren Max and Jake, Oliver and Esme and all their relatives.

Bearers at the funeral were Richard (son), John (son-in-law), Peter, Ian and Mark (grandsons), Clive (grandson-in-law) Thanks to everyone who sent cards and condolences and special thanks to Ann Trigg and Bill Hale for their invaluable help at the chapel and to Mavis who played the organ also to all her carers in the last few months and to Colin Phillips.
