RNLI lifeguards will be returning to Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion beaches this weekend ready to offer safety advice and assistance over the summer season. The charity’s lifeguards will be ready at their posts from 10am-6pm every day from Saturday 21 June until Sunday 7 September.

Working in partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council, RNLI lifeguards will return to their posts at Poppit Sands, Newport, Broad Haven, Newgale south, Saundersfoot, Tenby north, Tenby Castle, Freshwater west beach for the summer season.

Further north in the county of Ceredigion, the charity’s lifeguards will be ready at their posts at Aberporth, Tresaith and Aberystwyth North as they continue to work alongside Ceredigion County Council in the seasonal safety service.

RNLI lifeguards across the coast were kept busy last summer as thousands of people chose to enjoy the Welsh coast in the glorious sunshine. Working alongside local RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews, Coastguard teams and emergency services, RNLI lifeguards will be keeping a watchful eye throughout the summer to offer assistance and advice to those in trouble out on the coast.

Philip Davies, RNLI Lifeguard Manager said:

‘The lifeguards have all completed their training and are looking forward to returning to their posts for the summer season. 95% of the role is preventative but RNLI lifeguards are highly trained and are equipped to deal with everything from locating missing children and treating minor cuts and grazes through to performing major first-aid and lifesaving rescues.’

Philip added: ‘Last year the beaches were very busy with everyone making the most of the hot weather; but come rain or shine the lifeguards will be at their posts keeping a watchful eye again this summer.’
