Cardigan councillor John Adams-Lewis has taken on the chairmanship of Ceredigion County Council for an unprecedented second time.
Due to the recent illness of incoming chair Cllr Towyn Evans, Cllr Adams-Lewis agreed to keep the chains for another year.
Chief executive Bronwen Morgan told this week's council AGM that it was an "unusual situation".
"In the history of the council this is the very first time that the prospective chairman has been taken ill," she said.
"Towyn puts the work of the council foremost and wants the best for the council and the people of the county."
Cllr Adams-Lewis said: "Towyn had prepared well and was looking forward to being chairman. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he will have the opportunity in the near future to undertake the role of chairman."
Vice chairman is New Quay's Cllr Gill Hopley.
