More than 20 initiatives are to benefit from a £76,000 grants programme organised by Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon.

They include a Stop it Now! Wales, which will gain £4,768 to deliver 16 Parents Protect! sessions across Dyfed-Powys.

West Wales Action for Mental Health (WWAMH) will use £3,860 funding to develop a Ceredigion-based surf therapy programme to help military veterans and their families who have come – or may come - into contact with the Dyfed-Powys criminal justice system.

Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Club will gain £5,000 to buy equipment to help young people enjoy outdoor activities.

A skatepark in Parc Puw, Drefach Velindre, will be improved through a £4,200 grant, to encourage greater evening use by skateboarders and reduced the risk of anti-social behaviour.

Boncath Football Club will gain £3,331 to buy equipment and kits.

The second round of assistance from the Commissioner’s Fund offered grants of up to £5,000 for charities, voluntary organisations and community groups to develop ideas that have a positive impact on the area they serve.

Mr Salmon hopes the scheme will help improve the lives of the people across the region. The projects reflect Mr Salmon’s 2013-18 Police and Crime Plan for Dyfed-Powys.

The Commissioner said: “I thank all those who worked so hard on their submissions to the second round of Commissioner’s Fund grants."

Mr Salmon believes that everybody has a part to play in making neighbourhoods safer; hundreds of individuals and organisations already volunteer or work hard to help in this process.

The Commissioner’s Fund provides further assistance. It is funded by the proceeds of crime awarded to the police and from the sale of unclaimed found property.

Community projects were nominated by frontline police officers and Dyfed-Powys Police staff.
