Ceredigion MP Mark Williams, has welcomed the launch of the new stamp, produced by Royal Mail to commemorative the birth of Dylan Thomas.
The launch of the Dylan Thomas stamp was part of Royal Mail’s Remarkable Lives issue. Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas is one of ten remarkable individuals from the world of arts, sport, design, economics and heroism, celebrated in Royal Mail’s ‘Remarkable Lives’ stamp issue.
Originally born in Swansea, Thomas spent much time in New Quay in Ceredigion with his wife, and it was there that it is thought Thomas was inspired to write ‘Quite Early One Morning’, a sketch for his later work ‘Under Milk Wood’.
Commenting, Mark Williams said;
‘I was delighted to be at the launch of the commemorative stamp, particularly for an extraordinary Welshman who spent much of his time in Ceredigion.
'Dylan Thomas is an important and influential figure in Welsh cultural history with a prolific body of work, and it is fantastic that he has been recognised by Royal Mail in this way.’
