Plans to send a Ceredigion employee off to Turkey for a conference at a cost of £850 have been criticised.
Gill Byrne is representing the county at the International Play Conference in Turkey and will be giving a presentation on the Ceredigion National Play landscaping project.
But at this week's lifelong learning scrutiny committee, Cllr Ceredig Davies questioned the wisdom of sending a delegate abroad in times of financial cut backs.
"I don't think this sends a good message to the public at all," he said.
Families first co-ordinator Cathryn Morgan said that the cost of the trip had been scaled back as last year two delegates attended from Ceredigion.
"It is a good profile raiser for us ," she said.
