Natural Resources Wales is urging people near the Wales coast to be prepared for flooding tomorrow (Saturday).

The warning comes as high tides combined with forecast gale force winds will cause a storm surge that could cause overtopping of defences in places.

The forecast now indicates the coastal flooding has the potential to be as severe as early January.

Natural Resources Wales is expecting to issue Flood Warnings along whole of the Welsh coastline.

Current forecasts show that combination of high tides and strong winds could cause flooding on Saturday morning and again during Saturday evening. High tides and strong winds will persist into next week with a risk of coastal flooding on Monday morning’s high tides.

People are strongly advised to stay clear of promenades and sea fronts as they could be swept away by large waves or hit by debris.

Natural Resources Wales staff will continue to check coastal and river defences are in good working order, clearing debris and working closely with local authorities, police and other partners to help ensure communities are prepared ahead of the weekend.
