Cardigan Town Council is increasing its precept by three percent to £80,340.

On the above basis, the precept for 2014-15 will be calculated at £46.56 for a Band D property council tax compared to £46.02 for the previous financial year. This equates to £3.88 per month, an increase of 13p per month.

The Band D council tax for other Ceredigion towns for 2013-14 was set as follows: Aberystwyth £72.50, Aberaeron £46.60, Lampeter £46.25.

The increase was agreed by members as the following capital projects were considered:

£16,000 per annum is required towards retaining the two public conveniences under threat of closure at Victoria Gardens and Feidrfair. A capital sum has been set aside to assist funding for Age Cymru Ceredigion, Citizens’ Advice Bureau, Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan Castle and Gwyl Fawr Aberteifi.

The upgrading of town council-owned street lights is also placed on the agenda for the forthcoming financial year.

To date, over £16,000 has been donated to charities and local organisations. Expenses incurred at King George 5th Playing Field during the past year amounted to £3,218.

In addition, Cardigan Cancer Care received £1,695 from the Mayor's Fund and the Apprenticeship Fund at Coleg Ceredigion received £1,485 19 to assist students develop their careers. Hence, £3,180 was raised by the Mayor, Cllr Catrin Miles, towards her chosen funds during the past year.
