Catherine Heline Richards, known to all as Heline, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at her home on Thursday night. She was 88 years old.
Mrs Richards was one of the first women in Wales to be given a bus driver's licence, and many family members followed in her footsteps. She drove numerous local children to and from school over the years, and was driving until her 70's.
She lived in Newport all her life and was well known in the community, particularly through her involvement in the family business, her work with the WRVS voluntary service, and her milk-round.
Born in Bentick, she later moved to Min-yr-Awel, which she built with her late husband Reggie.
She leaves five children Nigel, Malcolm, Martiene, Olga and Gina, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at Parc Gwyn crematorium at 3.15pm on Thursday.
