THE deadline to register for an unique energy scheme is being extended.

Following massive interest and further changes to energy supply prices, the deadline to register for the Cyd Cymru/Wales Together energy scheme, is being extended to January 12.

Earlier this autumn, Pembrokeshire County Council urged residents to sign up for the initiative which aims to help people with their energy bills.

Developed by Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan local authorities - with the support of other councils across Wales – the scheme encourages households to band together to get the lowest possible price for their gas and electricity bills.

By buying collectively it is hoped that bills can be reduced by hundreds of pounds a year.

Organisers say that so far 5,000 people have registered for the scheme with interest continuing to grow.

After the new deadline of January 12 for registration of interest, people will be given until January 24 to accept the offer.

A second switch is then anticipated to run from January 27 to March 2 with a deadline of March 14 to accept the offer.

The Welsh scheme, which is also backed by housing associations, follows an earlier pilot scheme in Cornwall.
