A CEREDIGION business has been fined for fly-posting along the A484 between Pentrecagal and Newcastle Emlyn.
Council environmental enforcement officers received a complaint of an illegal sign on the highway. It was affixed to a local authority road sign and advertised a sale being held by a local business.
The sign was removed by the local authority in accordance with powers under Section 132(2) of the Highways Act 1980.
The officers contacted the business concerned who conceded that they had put the advertisement on the highway without permission.
The person responsible elected to pay a fixed penalty of £75, which if paid, will discharge their liability to prosecution for the offence.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “We hope this will remind to people that it is an offence to affix illegal advertisements to any structure on the highway, or to put up advertisements on private land without the necessary planning consent.”
