Exhibition on Screen brings blockbuster art exhibitions from galleries around the world to cinemas, the second in this season is Girl with the Pearl Earring at Theatr Mwldan on January 13,7pm.

In addition to covering the exhibitions’ paintings, award-winning director, Phil Grabsky takes audiences behind the scenes to discover what lies behind the exhibition creatively and technically and what the artwork reveals about the artist and the particular historical period.

Filmed exclusively for cinema at the exhibitions and on location, this ground breaking series allows art lovers worldwide to enjoy, marvel and delight at the works of some of history’s greatest ever painters on the big screen, in stunning high definition.

After two years on a blockbuster world tour, the Girl with a Pearl Earring has returned home to the much-loved Mauritshuis gallery in The Hague, which has just completed extensive renovations. With huge queues lining up for a glimpse of her enigmatic beauty and nearly 1.2 million visitors at its stop in Japan, the enduring appeal of this masterpiece is indisputable. The beautifully filmed documentary goes in pursuit of the many unresolved riddles surrounding the extraordinary painting and its mysterious creator Vermeer. Who was this girl? Why and how was it painted? Why is it so revered?

Tickets are £10 (£9) available from Theatr Mwldan’s Box Office on 01239 621200, online or via smart phone at www.mwldan.co.uk.

Ian Watson’s exhibition of ink drawings and watercolour and oil paintings ‘Summer Grass, Winter Worm’ is currently showing at Oriel Mwldan. Admission is free and the gallery is open until 8pm each day.
