A truck-driver turned artist is opening up his studio to the public for the first time as part of the Ceredigion Art Trail.

Former long-distance lorry driver Al Spillett from Rhydlewis has recorded his twenty years on the road with paintings of roadscapes in the U.K. and abroad.

“For 22 years my wife Colleen and I toured the country with a mobile gallery selling my work at country fairs and transport shows,” said Al. “Now I’m settled in Rhydlewis and sell my work from my studio there. I have customers all over the world.

“It’s quite common for people from the road haulage world to drop in on me unannounced. I’m looking forward to the new visitors the Trail will bring.”

When Al is not painting, he helps his daughter and her partner by looking after his five month old granddaughter Leila.

During August there are free art exhibitions all over Ceredigion and 49 artists are opening their studios to the public.
