Story tales, parties and visiting authors are helping Pembrokeshire libraries celebrate World Book Day this year.
Libraries and schools across the county are holding a host of special events and activities next week to highlight the joys of reading to local children.
Held this year on March 6, World Book Day is the biggest annual event celebrating books and reading across the globe.
The fun starts on Wednesday March 5 when Fishguard Library hosts a World Book Day Party, 10.30am to 11.30am – with Peppa Pig invited!
The week of festivities rounds off with a World Book Day Parade at Fishguard Library on March 7from 3.30pm to 4pm. Young and old are invited to come along as their favourite story book character and be in with a chance of winning a prize for best costume.
Councillor Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Culture said reading was the gateway to learning as well as being fun.
“Good reading starts early and children who share books with others are more likely to develop language skills and advanced reading levels,” he said,
“Our events are a fun way to get local children’s imaginations fired up and encourage them to become avid readers.”
