September 2009 marks the 60th anniversary of the admission of about 65 pupils to Llandysul Grammar School in September 1949.

Other more notable events that happened that year included the maiden flight of the world’s first jet airliner ‘The Comet’ and the publication of George Orwell’s book ‘1984’. The British Prime Minister was Clement Attlee and Harry S Truman was US president. The wartime rationing of clothes in the UK ended and Dylan and Caitlin Thomas moved to the Boathouse in Laugharne. Plaid leader Ieuan Wyn Jones and Welsh rugby star JPR Williams were born and writer T Rowland Hughes died.
