CEREDIGION is at the forefront of moves to introduce ground-breaking software to the locality, Cardigan town councillors have been told.

Cllr Clive Davies told colleagues that Ceredigion County Council’s LoRaWAN Gateway Agreement could see the introduction of special sensors which would bring considerable benefits in all walks of life.

“I have identified three locations to put them up,” he went on.

“They can be used to direct people to street parking as well as pinpointing the number of customers going into individual shops and testing air quality.

“We are ahead of the curve on this – not many other towns are using this kind of technology.”

And Cllr Davies revealed that the sensors could also be a useful crime-fighting tool by providing additional security, including down at Mwnt Church which was recently targeted by vandals.

“Mwnt is included in this as we now have fibre going down there, while sensors can be placed on life rings in Cardigan which occasionally get thrown in the river,” he added.

“I have started to pursue a grant application through Cynnal Y Cardi which I think is worth doing – I am also working with Ceredigion Council and the police on this.

“These sensors can cost anything between £60 and several hundred pounds depending on what they do.”
