Five Ceredigion football stalwarts have been honoured for their collective 200 years of service.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) recently awarded the Long Service Medal to the five volunteers, who have all dedicated more than 40 years to Welsh football.

The awards were presented to Byron Davies, Geraint Davies, John Jones, Dai Morgan, and John Walters at a special ceremony in Ffostrasol.

The event, attended by family, friends, and club representatives, was led by FAW vice president and Central Wales Football Association (CWFA) chairman, Will Lloyd Williams, who referred to the recipients as 'heroes of the game'.

Byron Davies, from Dewi Stars, has been involved with his village club since the 1970s, initially as the regular goalkeeper.

After retiring from playing, he continued to support the club off the field and has been a significant contributor to its recent success.

Geraint Davies, a life member of the league, has been the league secretary since 1980 and has attended more than 300 league council meetings in his 44 years of service.

He also represents the league on the CWFA Council and was a founder member and secretary of the South Cards Mini Minor League.

John Jones, currently the league chairman, was nominated by the Cambrian Tyres League, which he is an executive committee member of.

He is known for his managerial skills with Bont FC and Dewi Stars and is one of the league's two representatives on the CWFA Council.

Dai Morgan, affectionately known as ‘Dai Sarge’, has been involved with Cardigan FC for many years.

He initially worked with the club’s junior section before becoming the long-serving secretary.

He is also a past chairman and a life member of the Ceredigion League.

John Walters' association with the Ceredigion League dates back to the 1960s.

He began as a player with Cardigan before switching to St Dogmaels, where he became club secretary.

In the 1970s, he became a respected referee and served more than 20 years as the league’s treasurer.

He was nominated as one of the league’s vice presidents and was a long-standing league representative on the CWFA Council.

He also served as the association’s youth secretary.

The Long Service Medal is awarded to individuals who have given more than 40 years of voluntary service to Welsh football.

The ceremony was a tribute to their dedication and commitment to local football, with each recipient receiving a medal as a token of appreciation for their invaluable contributions.
