Newcastle Emlyn ladies hockey club traveled to Llandrindod Wells for their last away trip of 2023.

They were facing Radnor, which is a team that is known for playing very well at home. Radnor started on the front foot, attacking strongly against the defenders. They managed to score within the first 10 minutes of the game, which meant that Emlyn needed to change their tune.

As the time got on, Emlyn settled into the game with passes coming from the back from Sioned Davies and Caryl-Haf Lloyd which managed to find the wingers Rosie Hughes and Carys Owen.

With a break in play, the forwards were away and Enfys Davies managed to equalize. Soon after the game was back equal, Radnor were away again and managed to win a few penalty corners. Goalkeeper Elin Williams and Caryl-Haf managed to save a few but on the last occasion the ball found itself in the goal, and put Radnor back in the lead.

By resetting again, Emlyn’s forward line were much stronger with quick runs by Sara Patterson and Sioned Fflur to reach the attacking half circle. They managed to win two consecutive penalty corners and it was Efa Jones’ turn to get her first goal of the season. Back equal at half time.

With hard work to be done, Emlyn were keen to receive the three points. Mel Williams held her own in midfield with support of Elen Hill and managed to win another penalty corner.

To switch the routines up, Ellie Lloyd was called up from the defense to play a role in the chosen routine. She also managed to score her first of the season by flicking the ball into the net. The team were pleased with their decision as this meant they were back in the lead.

Newcastle Emlyn battled until the last minute by performing strong tackles and intercepting the ball time after time which led to an away victory, 2-3. Ellie Lloyd was chosen as player of the match for her amazing work at the back.

Newcastle Emlyn play at home in Crymych against Brecon next weekend at 1.30pm.
