A UNIQUE collection of Teifi skiffs assembled on the River Teifi at Cardigan before the coronavirus lockdown was imposed.

Nick and Matt Newman of Swallow Yachts designed the unique skiffs, assisted with their building by Dai ‘Gorwel’ Williams as joint creator.

The event on the Teifi was planned for March 14, just upstream of Cardigan Bridge but the coronavirus crisis stopped many attending.

Richard James, of Cardigan RC, had put in many hours of organisation and liaison with Teifi Skiffs Club, with the entrants scheduled to come from all four Home Nations.

There was huge disappointment that the planned competition had to be cancelled but the proud boat owners agreed to meet informally anyway where it was possible.

Aberdyfi RC, Aberystwyth RC, SARC and Llangrannog RC sent their apologies but are looking forward to a restaging post Covid-19. All rowing was subsequently suspended by British Rowing on March 20.

An informal gathering, still comprising all four nations, was enjoyed by all on a beautiful, spring day which confirmed the potential of a venue equal to, or even better than, many UK rowing courses.
