The only game on the local football circuit to beat the weather at the weekend was the J Emrys Morgan Cup round two tie at St Dogmaels where the Teifi Estuary villagers and Costcutter reigning champions were 4-2 winners over league basement boys Ffostrasol.

The north Pembrokeshire cup fighters are joined in the third round by Newcastle Emlyn who sprang a 5-2 midweek win over league newcomers Crymych of Division Two.

After continuous heavy rain in the run-up to Saturday it speaks volumes for the standard of drainage work undertaken at School Field in recent times.

Saints were four goals clear and cruising before the break and although the visitors halved the deficit during the second period it was a case of too little and too late.

Classy midfielder Rhys Jones nudged the Greens ahead from the penalty spot after Josh Mellor was upended and the same player doubled his side’s advantage when following up and tapping home an Adam Williams rebound.

Craig Williams crossed for Louis Harding to hit the third gaol and the provider turned scorer for goal number four.

It was a similar scenario ten miles further up the Teifi Valley where Emlyn led by four goals at half time and the Reds went on to make it a nap hand near the end.

Steve Thomas nudged the homesters ahead and the other goals came via Sam Hall, Luke Grant and Dion Davies.
