The Costcutter League season swings into action on Tuesday, August 20, with five Division One games and four in the second tier.

Reigning Division One champions St Dogmaels cross the Teifi to do battle with Cardigan Town, a game that could attract a sizeable crowd to King George V Playing Field.

Despite losing narrowly in the Eddie Merry Memorial Tournament in Fishguard during pre-season Saints impressed and after an intensive training programme will be fancied by many followers to retain their title.

Cardigan Town under new player/manager James Evans have signed a number of players and with a crop of youngsters likely to challenge for selection the Magpies will be out to cause a huge early upset.

With the arrival of several players from the Costcutter, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire leagues, Newcastle Emlyn produced stunning performances in friendlies and even before a ball has been kicked in anger there are those tipping the Reds not only to improve on last season’s fifth but to establish themselves as favourites for the championship.

The former Welsh League outfit open the new term with an away game against Llanboidy and although numerous sides have come unstuck at Cae Dandre there is a strong feeling that Owain Thomas’s charges can come through the test successfully.

It remains to be seen if runners-up Crannog can repeat the heroics, the Llangrannog-based side opening with a tricky away game against promoted Aberporth at Parcllyn.

Lampeter Town have appointed Jonion Evans as manager and the new man will be eager to hit the ground running as the North Road men make the short journey to Felinfach.

Llandysul finished fourth last season under manager Gwynfor Edwards and the Easter Monday League Cup holders will hope to bank maximum points at home against Ffostrasol.

Division Two newcomers Crymych start with an away game against Bargod Rangers at Parc Puw, New Quay visit Crannog Reserves, St Dogmaels Reserves have a home local derby encounter with Maesglas and Ffostrasol Reserves host relegated Aberaeron Reserves.
