Finishing the season in rip-roaring style Cardigan captured the Ceredigion Bowling Association Division One championship.

With two games remaining reigning champions Lampeter were considered by many followers as red hot favourites.

But the penultimate clash involving the top two on the Gwbert Road green in Cardigan saw the homesters romp to victory and bank 12 points, which left Colin James and Co a point clear going into the final day.

To relieve the mid county bowlers of the title James and team-mates needed 13 points from their visit to bottom of the pile Queen’s Road in Aberystwyth.

The Cardis plundered the required points but as it transpired the title was handed to them on a plate as Lampeter went down by eight shots against visitors Tregaron and ended the campaign ten points adrift of the new kingpins.
