Turning in a performance brimming with pride and passion Llandysul defeated new Costcutter League champions St Dogmaels 2-1 and lifted the Cardigan Bay Cup to go with the Easter Monday League Cup the Swallows already had under lock and key.

For Saints it was a second final defeat, the Teifi Estuary villagers having gone down 3-0 against Penparcau in the J Emrys Morgan Cup at Penrhyncoch last month.

To be fair to the new champs they were without a number of key players with skipper and influential central defender Jason Williams injured and the three Jones brothers Rhys, Daniel and Luke holidaying abroad.

The Swallows controlled the game for lengthy periods and on the whole 90 minutes thoroughly deserved to take the trophy.

Chris Harris put Llandysul in front before the interval with a typical poacher’s goal – his 20th strike of the season.

Top marksman Louis Harding squared matters midway through the second period but less than two minutes later Llandysul were awarded a penalty for a handling offence and central defender and skipper Dean Jones beat Casey Walters from the spot.
