Before the Easter Monday League Cup quarter final tie between Cardigan-based Maesglas of Division Two and First Division Llandysul the rivals had not met in the latter stages of the competition since the 1982 final when a solitary Huw ‘Dans’ Jones header gave the Blues their first taste of success.

But it was an entirely different story at Maes Radley where the Swallows, who included a number of teenagers, emerged 3-1 winners.

Goals by veteran Mathew Newbold and a Chris Harris strike in the first 30 minutes put them in control.

Disappointing to be trailing at the break the Blues went at their opponents and with a bit of luck in front of goal might have upset the odds, however Nathan Jones, an ex-Blues player, had an excellent game between the sticks and kept the home team at bay.

Maesglas boys remained vulnerable to the counter attack and with 10 minutes left Llandysul broke away for Newbold to claim his second.

Maesglas had a consolation goal with new recruit Tommy Furbear striking from 15 yards and beating Jones to the bottom corner.

Llandysul now face St Dogmaels in the semi-final.
