For as long as most football fans can remember Boxing Day has been a special occasion with arch-rivals Cardigan Town and St Dogmaels locking horns for the bragging rights and league points.

But there is disappointment for followers of both clubs with this year’s Costcutter holiday clash in the north Pembrokeshire village called off after Cardigan chose it as their one-game-a-season postponement entitlement.

The derby will be re-arranged, possibly in midweek with an evening kick-off towards the end of the season.

Unbeaten leaders Saints are currently three points clear of the rest with games in hand, but reigning champions Lampeter Town and Crannog can gain ground as the pacesetters are forced to kick their heels.

The champs have improved in leaps and bounds recently with five league and cup wins on the bounce, netting 24 goals and not conceding.

Terry Witts and Co make the short journey to eighth in the table Felinfach who have won four times in twelve outings. The Milkmen gave the leaders a run for their money recently and on their own stamping ground can be expected to pose problems for their neighbours.

Crannog will also hope to narrow the gap at the top with an eighth win in 12 starts when seventh-placed Llanboidy provide the opposition at the Urdd Centre.

The coastal villagers are only four points behind St Dogmaels and another success would obviously give them cause for optimism, especially as they have to meet the leaders twice.

Fourth-placed Llandysul put together an encouraging run earlier in the season but the Swallows have been hit by a spate of injuries and will hope to have a full squad available when hosting Ffostrasol at Llandysul Park.

Newcastle Emlyn have blown hot and cold this term and like Llandysul have been hit by injuries to key players, but the Reds will be strongly fancied to bank maximum points against bottom of the pile Bargod Rangers at Parc Emlyn.
