A well-attended event, held at Aberporth on Saturday 11th October, with 17 entrants from clubs including Aberporth, Penrhiwllan, Manordeifi, Tygwydd, Pencnwc and Rhydlewis.
The 17 players, made up of 4 groups, played each of their games over 8 ends. These were well-contended, seeing some fine bowling from such young players, the standard of play being a credit to the players and the clubs that they represented.
Winner of Group A – Iwan Davies (Pencnwc)
Winner of Group B – Marcus Hands (Penrhiwllan)
Winner of Group C – Tomos Powel (Aberporth)
Winner of Group D - Dylan Johnson (Rhydlewis)
The winner of group A played the winner of group C, whilst the winner of group B played group D’s winner
The semi-finals were well fought with the eventual winners for the final being Pencnwc’s Iwan Davies up against Marcus Hands of Penrhiwllan.
The final saw Iwan taking a commanding lead by the 6th end being 7 -2 up on Marcus and it looked like ‘game over’ for the young 10-year old – but he had other ideas!
On the 6th end Marcus had second wind and took 4 shots bringing the score to 7 – 6 in Iwan’s favour going into the final end where Marcus picked up a further shot.
So an extra end had to be played as the game was a draw at this point, in this Marcus picked up a further 2 shots making him the eventual winner of the competition.
Worth pointing out that Marcus was 10 years of age on 30th September 2014!!! (Info from a very proud grand-dad)
Also the winner of Group C – Tomos Powel - was a 10 year old. Both Marcus and Tomos attend coaching sessions on Mondays at Aberporth run by Rhian Williams – so congratulations to her.
