A NINE-year-old cooking fanatic’s birthday dream came true last weekend, thanks to Fishguard restaurant JT@3 Main Street.

Harrison Elcock has been passionate about cooking ever since he was old enough to be able to stand up and help in the kitchen.

Lat year the culinary crazy kid raised more than £500 for homelessness charity Centrepoint by running a soup restaurant from his Goodwick home.

“He’s just become more and more obsessed with cooking,” said mum Katie. “He buys cookery books out of his pocket money, browses recipe ideas online and is planning his stall at future food festivals.”

When his mum, Katie, asked him if he wanted a party for his ninth birthday, Harrison replied “No Mummy I want to go to a posh restaurant for a steak.”

Katie tried to book in at JT@3 but unfortunately it was closed that evening as chef and owner Dan was taking part in a charity event to raise money for a mental health charity.

However, the restaurant offered to host Harrison and his parents the following evening, adding that Dan would welcome Harrison into the kitchen before his meal for a private cooking session.

While his parents enjoyed free drinks upstairs Harrison helped Dan make desserts, plate up starters and prepare cuts of the finest steak.

To top it all off, the restaurant gave Harrison his steak meal as a birthday gift.

“I can’t thank Dan enough for what he did for our son,” said Katie. He was literally overcome with happiness. He went to bed saying ‘I’m the luckiest boy alive’.”

In turn chef Dan said that he was impressed with Harrison’s enthusiasm for all things culinary.

“He is so passionate, professional and knowledgeable at such a young age,” said Dan. “A real pleasure to have in the kitchen with us. I’m delighted he enjoyed it. I really do look forward to a soup charity event with him in the future.”
