FUNDRAISING at a holiday park has enabled a £3,000 donation to be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

As the South Carvan site at Tavernspite was about to close its doors at the end of the season, the donation was handed to Sybil Edwards, chairperson of the Pembrokeshire branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The charity was the choice of caravan owners Laurie and Tina Ventrie, whose 31-year-old daughter-in-law had recently lost her battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

A wide range of competitions and events throughout the year were organised at South Carvan by site bar manager Stephen Roberts.

Sybil thanked him, site owner Charles James and everyone who had contributed to the final total, and explained that the branch was celebrating the 40th anniversary of its formation by aiming to raise £40,000 during the course of the year.

Speaking as a founder member of the branch, she said that, 40 years ago, they had optimistically hoped that their fundraising would pay for a cure of this life-threatening disease.

She added: "Sadly, this was not to be, but money raised over the years has brought about great achievements in the CF world.

"Very many CF patients are now leading fulfilled lives - going to university, holding down jobs, travelling the world, fundraising - climbing mountains.

"There isn't a mountain in Wales that hasn't been climbed by a young CF patient - or by older ones!"

Sybil told the fundraisers: "This wonderful cheque I have received from you tonight is not only heart-warming, but also takes us nearer to our target.

"We are very, very grateful."
