A troubled teen who stole cosmetics from a local supermarket is to appear at crown court.

Elisha Hazel Callen, of St Martins Road, Monkton, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop when she appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday.

The court heard that Callen, 18, was seen to put various items into her bag while in Tesco, Pembroke Dock, at 3.30pm on January 26, before taking other goods into the changing room.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, told the bench that cosmetics and underwear worth £57.41 were recovered from Callen after she left the store.

He added: “She had ripped most of the items from their packaging, so they were not suitable for resale.”

Magistrates heard that Callen had a number of previous convictions, and was subject to a crown court suspended sentence order.

Katy Hanson, defending, said: “She says she is very disappointed with herself, she is very aware of the serious position she is in today.”

Miss Hanson added that Callen had found it difficult to ‘settle back’ and re-adjust after being released from prison, and was no longer receiving the medication which had assisted her in custody.

“She was finding it difficult to cope. She has now re-engaged with probation, she has now started to look to the future.”

“Clearly this is a very troubled young lady. She is sorry for this offence.”

Magistrates committed the case to crown court for sentencing.

Callen was granted unconditional bail until her next appearance at Swansea crown court on March 23.
