A local county councillor has welcomed the news that a number of beaches in south Ceredigion are among those in the county to receive prestigious coastal awards.

Tresaith and Llangrannog are among three Ceredigion beaches – Borth being the third – to have been awarded Blue Flag status, meaning that their overall standard of water is deemed to be excellent.

Green Coast Awards – also awarded to beaches with excellent water quality water – go to Cilborth-Llangrannog, Penbryn and Mwnt, while Seaside Awards (overall good or sufficient water quality standard) have been gained by New Quay Harbour, New Quay Dolau/North and Aberporth.

“As Ceredigion County Council’s cabinet member for the economy and regeneration, I welcome the good news that several of our beaches continue to be recognised with these quality assurance awards,” said Cllr Clive Davies.

“I am also delighted to see that Blue, Green and Seaside Award flags/plaques will be erected at Ceredigion’s most popular bathing beaches in 2025, and we are fully expecting to see many visitors and locals alike enjoying themselves on beaches along the coast this summer.

“May I again express my appreciation to the many individuals, groups/organisations and the business sector across Ceredigion in volunteering their time to champion our Caru Ceredigion messaging and by undertaking regular beach, promenade and foreshore litter picks along with promoting environmental conservation, wildlife educational and beach/water safety activities etc. along our coastline.

“Without this long-standing support, we would not be able to put forward so many of our beaches and successfully obtain these prestigious coastal awards, which places Ceredigion beaches amongst the very best of coastal destinations in Wales and the UK whilst acting as a key driver for the Ceredigion economy.”

Bathers are strongly advised to always swim at a lifeguarded beach between the red and yellow flags denoting the designated swimming areas patrolled in Ceredigion by RNLI Lifeguards whilst on duty at Borth, Clarach, Aberystwyth North, Aberystwyth South, New Quay Harbour, Llangrannog, Tresaith and Aberporth beaches.
