Search the Public Notice PortalTHE re-development of a St Dogmaels market garden might finally enable the construction of a pavement along a ‘dangerous’ stretch of highway, Cardigan town councillors have agreed.
For years there has been talk of extending the pavement along Heol Llandudoch, but nothing has yet materialised.
Now councillors hope the application by Llyr Evans Planning Ltd, relating to the market garden formerly known as ‘Trem’s’, might afford an opportunity for a footway alongside the neighbouring B4546.
Cllr Nick Bolton said the application also included the redevelopment of a house, demolition of existing glasshouses and construction of seven houses, only one of which would be affordable.
He added that while the applicant was willing to enter into a Section 106 agreement to reduce its impact on the local community, paths that were planned on the site were too narrow and parking insufficient.
However, Cllr John Adams-Lewis felt the application should be supported provided a pavement was included as part of the overall plan.
“I’d like to see a pavement along the road’s entire length or at least to where it turns down onto the pavement opposite,” he told colleagues.
“This is a dangerous location and if there’s a chance we can get the pavement there that we’ve been trying to get for several years then we should support this.”
Cllr David Maehrlein expressed concerns that the site was near the location of a landslip a few years previously, but Cllr Adams-Lewis dismissed his fears.
“Those houses would be quite close to the road and quite a way from where the landslide happened,” he said.
