Llangrannog beach is one of four in Ceredigion to be given a Blue Flag status.

The status is also awarded to Borth, Aberystwyth South, and Tresaith beaches.

Additionally, five more of the county's beaches have earned Seaside Award status, while four others carry the rural Green Coast Award.

The beaches given Seaside Awards are: Clarach, Aberystwyth North, New Quay Harbour, New Quay Dolau/North and Aberporth.

The Green Coast Award went to: Llanrhystud, Cilborth-Llangrannog, Penbryn and Mwnt.

Both Blue Flag and Green Coast statuses are awarded to beaches that meet the highest overall 'Excellent' water quality standards.

They're also judged on facilities for beach users, management, and safety provision.

The Seaside Award, on the other hand, recognises beaches which maintain a 'Good' standard of water quality, public facilities, safety provision and noteworthy management.

Councillor Clive Davies, Ceredigion County Council’s cabinet member for the economy and regeneration, has expressed his pleasure over this achievement.

He said: "I am delighted to see that Blue, Green, and Seaside Awards and plaques will again be given pride of place at Ceredigion’s most popular bathing beaches in 2024.

"We are fully expecting to see many locals and visitors alike enjoying themselves along the Ceredigion coastline, particularly after such a long and wet winter."

Cllr Davies also praised efforts from locals in preserving these beaches, saying: "I would again like to express my thanks to the many local community individuals, voluntary groups, organisations and indeed the business sector in continuing to champion the Caru Ceredigion mantra by undertaking regular beach, promenade and foreshore cleans, in addition to environmental conservation and wildlife education efforts, and beach and water safety activities along the county's coastline.

"Without this support, we would simply not be able to put forward so many of our beaches and successfully obtain these prestigious awards."

Quality assurance of these designated bathing waters in Wales is overseen by Natural Resources Wales, with annual monitoring from May to September.

Ceredigion beaches are popular coastal destinations for both Welsh locals and tourists, contributing to the local tourism economy.

Beachgoers are strongly advised to always swim at a lifeguarded beach between the red and yellow flags, which indicate the safe swimming areas that RNLI Lifeguards patrol in Ceredigion, found at Borth, Clarach, Aberystwyth North and South, New Quay Harbour, Cilborth-Llangrannog, Tresaith, and Aberporth.

In emergencies along the coastline, individuals should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
