PENARTH father and son, Andrew and Dan Fellows, will be entering the UK’s only off-shore jet ski race series which starts next month.

Andrew, 57, a retired firefighter and an experienced jet ski rider, decided to enter the Aqua Adrenaline series last year after missing the adrenaline and camaraderie from his former job.

He not only came away from last year’s season as runner-up in his class, but runner-up over the whole championship.

Dan,17, volunteered as a marshal throughout last year’s season, gaining a good knowledge of the sport.

Dan is a proficient jet ski rider himself and being so close to the action, was desperate to race this year.

The Aqua Adrenaline tour has taken them from racing on the River Mersey in Liverpool, to the Hanseatic Festival in Kings Lynn and in several places along the South Coast of England.

This year, the first race of the season will begin in Torquay on the May 2.

Although they will be racing on the water at the same time, they will be in different classes.

Andrew will be racing in the J1 class, allowing for a modified engine and Dan will be in the J3 class, under 200hp.

Plans are yet to be finalised, with Penarth having a long history with water ski racing, but it is hoped that the last race of the series will be held by the town, bringing a little racing nostalgia back to the sea front.

The series is well publicised and images are shown not only in the UK, but across the off-shore racing world.

If any local businesses are interested in sponsoring them, please get in touch with Andrew on 07722 281821.
