THESE defendants have had their cases before the courts recently.

They were accused of stealing a van and driving it whilst drunk, drug-driving, being abusive on a 999 call, and refusing to provide a breath sample to the police.

Their cases were heard at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court and Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court.

Here’s a round-up of the cases.

DANIEL WILLIAMS, 36, of Croes-lan, stole a van and drove it on the A486 whilst twice the drink-drive limit.

Williams was alleged to have taken a Volkswagen Crafter van from Llandysul on February 28 without the owner’s consent.

He was caught driving the van on the A486 between Pentrecwrt and Llandysul. When breathalysed, he recorded having 85 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35.

Williams pleaded guilty to both offences on April 3 at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court.

He was banned from driving for 17 months and must pay a total of £365 in fines, costs and a surcharge.

JAIHARI JOHNSON, 32, of Abermeurig, was caught driving whilst high on cocaine.

Johnson was driving a Ford Transit on the A487 at Cardigan on November 7. When tested by police, the defendant recorded having 78 micrograms of cocaine per litre (µg/L) of blood, as well as more than 800µg/L of benzoylecgonine – the main metabolite of cocaine – in his blood.

The legal limit – to exclude accidental exposure – is 10µg/L for cocaine and 50µg/L for benzoylecgonine.

Johnson pleaded guilty to two offences of drug-driving at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court on March 13.

The defendant was banned from driving for three years and was handed a £120 fine, £85 in costs and a £48 surcharge.

DAVID EVANS, 42, of Maescader in Pencader, has been banned from driving after refusing to provide a sample to police.

Evans was asked to provide a breath sample at Dafen Police Station on March 17 when suspected of having been a driver who had committed an offence.

The defendant admitted a charge of failing to provide a specimen for analysis, and at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on April 2 was disqualified from driving for 17 months.

Evans was fined £500 and was also told to pay £85 in costs and a £200 surcharge.

WESLEY ROBERTS, 36, of Creuddyn Bridge, admitted being abusive, menacing or obscene on a 999 call.

Roberts was charged with sending by a public communications network an offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing message in Aberystwyth on January 13. The court heard that this was on a 999 call.

He pleaded guilty at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court on April 3.

Roberts was sentenced to a one-year community order, as part of which he must complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

He was also fined £120 and must pay £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge.
