CARDIGAN town councillors have confirmed they are backing a Welsh Government re-wilding scheme that aims to restore wildflower meadows.
‘It’s For Them’ (‘Iddyn Nhw’) aims to make changes to mowing grassy areas in order to save wildlife.
And Cardi councillors are now ordering signs promoting the scheme to show the public why they are reducing the amount of grass-cutting in town.
“Wales’ natural environment is in decline,” said a Welsh Government spokesperson. “We urgently need to take action to save it.
“In some areas, we will cut the grass less often. This will provide food and shelter for wildlife and allow native wildflowers to produce seeds and flourish for years to come.
“Changes to mowing is about saving wildlife, not reducing costs.”
Cllr Clive Davies said a scheme introducing nest boxes at Aberporth had proved extremely effective.
Cllr Philippa Noble said: “Getting such signs is not a massive amount of money and they will explain to people that it’s not a case of us being negligent.”
