CARDIGAN’S Tesco store is in hot water with town councillors over a persistent water leak which has seen ‘gallons and gallons’ spread over part of its car park.
Cllr Elaine Evans told colleagues she had received several complaints.
“Water is belching out – gallons and gallons of it,” she said. “It’s right by the children’s play area.
“Welsh Water say the leak is the responsibility of Tesco as it’s from their water system.
“They were issuing a notice to Tesco about it.
“Should we also write to Tesco to try and get it sorted? All they seem to have done is just shoved a police cone on top of the leak and forgotten about it.”
Cllr Stephen Greenhalgh said the leak appeared to be worsening raising the possible risk of pollution, while Cllr Philippa Noble suggested the retail giants could end up being fined.
Cllr Richard Davies said there was also water flowing out of the back of Tesco and across the adjacent A487 bypass.
A Tesco spokesperson said a fire hydrant in the car park of the Cardigan superstore was recently broken by a third-party contractor and they were working with Welsh Water to find the first available date for them to complete the necessary repair work.
“The car park is open as normal to customers and has been throughout,” he added. “We apologise for the inconvenience.”
