A WOMAN has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting causing unnecessary suffering to reptiles.

Kayley Elizabeth Patricia Pugh, 23, of The Beeches, Llandysul, admitted the charge on April 21 at Llanelli Magistrates Court and was given her sentence by the court on May 18.

She was charged with one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal which took place between May 25, 2022, and August 27, 2022, in Carmarthen.

The charge related to three animals, two Leopard Geckos called Thor and Luna, and a Chinese Crested Water Dragon called Maverick.

She caused them unnecessary suffering by failing to adequately explore and address the causes of their poor condition.

She also admitted a second offence of the same charge relating to the gecko called Thor.

She was jailed for 12 weeks, suspended for 12 months. She must also carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and complete a rehabilitation activity requirement.

She was also banned from keeping animals for 10 years and ordered to pay £154 surcharge and £400 costs.
