Aberporth beach has resumed its rightful place on the Blue Flag status after being named as one of one of only 25 beaches in Wales which are to receive it.

The award, granted by national operator Keep Wales Tidy, is based on water cleanliness and quality.

“It’s wonderful to have the Blue Flag flying on Aberporth beach again,” commented Dave Addison, chairman of Aberporth Community Council.

“It’s a great boost for our economy as well as our tourism, but it’s also a great boost for the community because the beach means so very much to everyone.

“Volunteers are out on the beach throughout the year, litter picking and doing everything they can to ensure it remains a beautiful and unspoilt beach. And all the work they do is unpaid.

“This week’s announcement really is fantastic news for Aberporth.”

Other Ceredigion beaches which will be flying the Blue Flag are Llangrannog, Tresaith, Aberyswyth South and Borth.

An additional four beaches have achieved Seaside Award status which recognised that they have an overall ‘good’ standard. They are New Quay harbour, New Quay Dolau, Clarach and Aberyswyth North.

“It’s fantastic to see the Blue and Seaside Award flags flying at Ceredigion’s most popular bathing beaches once again this year,” commented Cllr Clive Davies, Ceredigion cabinet member for tourism and economic development.

“This has been achieved with the continued and much valued support of the numerous community voluntary groups and individuals championing the Caru Ceredigion message by undertaking regular clean-up and educational activities on our beaches and along the foreshore of Ceredigion.

“This has again, in no small way, contributed to our ability to put forward such a large number of our beaches and successfully obtain these prestigious awards, placing Ceredigion beaches amongst the very best in Wales and the UK.”

Ceredigion County Council continues to work with Natural Resources Wales, Welsh Water and other stakeholders to maintain the best possible bathing water quality to enable the public to continue to bath/swim with confidence on our designated bathing beaches.

Councillor Clive Davies, Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Tourism welcomed the news that such a large number of Ceredigion beaches continue to be recognised with these quality benchmark awards.

He said: “It’s fantastic to see Blue and Seaside Award flags flying at Ceredigion’s most popular bathing beaches again this year and we are fully expecting to see very busy beaches once again throughout this season.

"This has been achieved with the continued and much valued support of the numerous community voluntary groups and individuals championing the Caru Ceredigion message by undertaking regular clean-up and educational activities on our beaches and along the foreshore of Ceredigion.

"This has again, in no small way, contributed to our ability to put forward such a large number of our beaches and successfully obtain these prestigious awards, placing Ceredigion beaches amongst the very best in Wales and the UK.”
