The Big Orange event at Bargoed Farm on Saturday, April 15 raised £4,500 for the New Quay RNLI fundraising appeal - with more funds set to be raised this weekend.

It is a joint initiative to raise a total of £105,600 to pay for crew training and transportation costs for the station’s new Shannon class all-weather lifeboat.

There was live music throughout the day and evening, and events for all ages.

Adrian Turner, New Quay RNLI’s head launcher and a volunteer for more than 20 years, said: “We would like to thank everyone who was involved and everyone who came. Without everyone’s help and contributions we could not have made things work.”

Entertainment was provided by Cadence Acoustic Duo during the day and Chris Perry and George Porter’s 80s Icon Experience in the evening.

New Quay Fire Service, New Quay Coastguard team, Amy from Face It Arts and Andy from ACM Entertainment Llanarth joined members of New Quay RNLI on the day providing stalls.

Local businesses including Box of Delights, Penrhos Golf Club and the Sea Horse Inn in New Quay were also involved in the day.

This weekend, Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, there will be a 24-hour indoor row by members of the New Quay RNLI crew with help from Clwb Rhywfro Sion Cwilt Rowing Club.

Pete Yates, organiser of the event and coxswain at New Quay RNLI, said: “As a crew, together with Sion Cwilt Rowing Club, we are embarking on the challenge of a 24-hour indoor rowing event from Saturday to Sunday this weekend.

“We will be using two rowing machines and have scheduled crew to cover the 24-hour time period between 13.48 on Saturday and 13.48 on Sunday.

“13.48 is a symbolic number as it is the hull number of our new Shannon class all-weather lifeboat, so we feel it’s a fitting time to start and complete our challenge.”

Members of the public will be able to attend at New Quay Memorial Hall between 1pm-5.30pm on Saturday and 11am-2.30pm on Sunday and volunteers from the public can geet involved on a third rowing machine.

“We hope that with everyone’s help and support we can smash our £5,000 crew target towards the larger appeal,” said Pete. To donate visit www.justgiving.com/page/oarsomeindoorrow2023
