South Ceredigion roads that are planned to have lower speed limits

The Welsh Government passed a legislation in July 2022 that will see the speed limit on residential, built-up streets reduced from 30mph to 20mph throughout Wales. This will come into force in September this year.

There are no roads with restricted status in Ceredigion, therefore the change is being introduced through the Traffic Regulation Order process.

This means that the Council needs to conduct formal consultation with the public on all proposed new speed limit arrangements. Across Ceredigion, approximately 370 locations will be proposed for changes.

The Welsh Government says the 20mph default speed limit is expected to result in 40% fewer road collisions, save 6 to 10 lives every year and avoid 1,200 to 2,000 people being injured every year.

Councillor Keith Henson, Cabinet Member for Highways and Environmental Services and Carbon Management, said: “As a local authority, we are happy to support this in order to improve road safety, reduce the severity of injuries and encourage active and sustainable travel.

"We are keen to hear from residents on the 20mph plans so we’re encouraging everyone to participate in the consultation.”

Here are the some of the speed limit chages proposed to come into effect:

Aberaeron

• A482 Prince’s Avenue from the junction with A487T southwest for approximately 45 metres will be lowered from 30mph to 20mph.
• Bro Allt y Graig; Ffordd y Goitre will be lowered from 30mph to 20mph.
• Panteg Road, Glan-Afon, Coed y Bryn, Panteg, A482 from south of the medical centre to Allt Dolgwartheg including Vicarage Hill, Berllan Deg, Maes y Mellion, Lon y Felin, C1282 Rhiw Goch, Bro Ddewi, Maes Iwan, Parc Ffos, C1062 from junction with C1282 eastwards to end of existing 30mph limit, Pen-y-Bryn and the lane towards builders yard will be lowered from 30mph to 20mph.
• Cwrt y Brenin Ffosyffin will be lowered from 30mph to 20mph.
• C1062 from end of existing 30mph limit eastwards for approximately 52metres will be reduced from the national speed limit to 20mph.

Aberarth

• U1551 and the lane to the property Heulwen will be reduced from the national speed limit to 20mph.
• Loop of Water Street, U1552 Capel Bethel Road, road from the A487T to the property Union Villa and the lane to the property known as The Terrace will be lowered from the national speed limit to 20mph.
• C1056 from junction with A487T to south of property known as Bryndewi including the side lane will be lowered from the national speed limit to 20mph.
• C1056 from south of property known as Bryndewi to junction with lane of property known as Brynmor Villa will be lowered from the national speed limit to 30mph.

Aberbanc

• A475 from the property known as Alltweler westwards then south for approximately 470 metres to by the property known as Danrhiw will be lowered from 30mph to 20mph.
• B4343 from end of existing 30mph limit south to south of the junction with Cae Rwgan and Cae Rwgan will be lowered from the national speed limit to 20mph.

Aberporth
