The Oxfam shop in Cardigan will be reopening very soon!

That’s the message from the shop’s staff, and local residents have been intrigued to see the preparations through the windows.

Colourful displays of crafts from around the world, and clothes and other goods donated by people locally, are attracting a lot of attention.

Manager of the shop, Lizzy Bailey, said: “We were forced to close for major building repairs which took much longer than expected, but we’re delighted that we’re now able to get the shop ready for reopening.

"The shop has been part of the Cardigan scene for over 30 years, and we know that Cardigan residents and visitors have missed being able to buy the old favourites.

"The clothes, crafts, books, toys, cards, chocolates, coffees, homewares and so on will all be available again. But when we reopen we’ll also have a wonderful selection of women’s vintage clothing, and some other new lines too.”

Volunteers have been busy sorting through the donations of clothes and other goods which have been pouring in since the public noticed that the lights were on again in the shop.

“It seems that many people had been saving the things they wanted to donate, and now they’re pleased to be able to give them to us," said one volunteer.

"So we have the job of pricing them and preparing them for display, and we’ve got some very high quality items ready for sale now."

To reopen for the fullest number of hours a week, more volunteers are being sought, and there’s also a paid post available for a deputy manager for 18 hours a week.

People of all ages (from 14 upwards) volunteer for many reasons, with some offering half a day or more every week, while others help ouyt on a more flexible basis.

Anyone interested in volunteering is invited to come in when the shop is open, or contact Lizzy on oxfamshopf5113@oxfam.org.uk or 01239 615352. Or you can offer online at oxfam.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer-with-us

As soon as all the shelves are stocked and everything is in place, the shop will open its doors again. No definite date has been set, but it won’t be long!
