Volunteers at Cardigan RNLI Lifeboat station were delighted to receive a surprise donation from local group Ferwig Friends.

One of the group’s members suffered a complex break to her left leg after being knocked down by her dog while walking on Poppit beach on Remembrance Sunday last year.

RNLI volunteers, along with the Coastguard, were quickly on hand to help before the casualty was transferred to hospital.

As a way of saying thank you to all those involved, members of Ferwig Friends made a charitable collection at Christmas instead of sending cards to one another.

And recently a couple of their members popped into Cardigan RNLI station unannounced during a Sunday morning training session to hand over a cheque for £80.

Cardigan Lifeboat Operations Manager Pete Austin said: "It is a lovely gesture from the group and is much appreciated. We were just glad we could help."

Recently Cardigan RNLI lifeboat station launched both its lifeboats to reports that a dog owner had got into difficulty on nearby cliffs.

Both the B-class and D-class boats were paged by the Coastguard at 2.17pm on Saturday 4 March over concerns that an owner of two loose dogs had got into difficulty on cliffs at Mwnt.

A spokesperson for RNLI Cardigan Lifeboat said: "The Cardigan Lifeboats were swiftly launched and made best speed to the area and conducted thorough shoreline searches of the cliffs and caves.

"Both boats were stood down and returned to station and the dogs were found locally having been reunited with their owners who were safe and well.

"This was the first shout for our newly-qualified shore crew and it was great to see how well the whole team worked together."
