TOMORROW there will be a special walk to remember a local unsung hero.

Lampeter Ramblers will be walking on March 8, 2023 – International Women’s Day – in memory of a special person called Jane Evans.

Evans, of Caio, walked with the drovers to London, before embarking on joining the Florence Nightingale troop of nurses in Crimea.

Lampeter Ramblers’ Kay Davies said: “We wanted to celebrate International Women's Day with a walking hero from the area.

“Jane is an unsung hero and what influenced her to walk with drovers to go to the Crimea is not known.

“There is a plaque in the local chapel in Pumsaint, where I first got to know about her many years ago when on a walk in the area with the ramblers.”

Angela Charlton, Ramblers Cymru director, said: “It is great to see our local ramblers groups celebrating International Women’s Day by hosting themed walks.

“Women are the driving force for many of our volunteer groups, undertaking lots of roles from path maintenance to walk leading, so why not join them to help boost your confidence in exploring the outdoors and your health and wellbeing too.”
