A TEIFI company has had its gin named as the best in Wales!

In the Welsh Wind, based in Tan-y-Groes, recently had its Eccentric Spirits Dewi Sant gin named the Best Contemporary Gin in Wales at the World Gin Awards 2023.

The gin will now compete in the prestigious awards to be named as the world’s best, with the overall winner being revealed in February.

The gin was also given the Gold Medal in the Best Contemporary Gin category.

It wasn’t the only one of the distillery’s eight Eccentric Spirits Collection to be commended, as the Young Tom gin was given the Bronze Medal in the Best Old Tom Gin category.

The Young Tom gin was the only Welsh gin to win an award in the category.

Ellen Wakelam, co-founder of In the Welsh Wind, said: “We’re delighted to see Dewi Sant, from our Eccentric Spirits range, be recognised in this way.

“It’s a herbaceous gin with fennel notes and works equally well in cocktails as it does in a refreshing G&T. Dewi Sant also won a gold medal in the Global Gin Masters 2022 too, so it’s flying high!”

In the Welsh Wind Distillery is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2023 and produces a range of award-winning spirits including the Signature Style Gin, Cask-Aged Palo Cortado Gin and the Three Grain Vodka.

The Eccentric Collection uses a range of Welsh botanicals in its six gins and also features the Cardi Bay Vodka and Black Batch Rum.

The Worlds Drinks Awards runs the World Gin Awards and will be announcing the World Best winners on February 23.
