A TEIFI care home has been praised in a recent inspection.
Care Inspectorate Wales praised Glyn Nest in Newcastle Emlyn’s ‘welcoming and accommodating’ environment and the ‘dedicated’ staff who always speak respectfully and highly of the residents.
The residential home currently has 28 occupants and is the Baptist Union of Wales’ residential home.
The report states that the individual needs of the residents matters to the staff and that they are treated well and know that if there is an issue, staff will deal with it appropriately.
Residents are full of praise for the staff, with one telling the inspector “the carers are wonderful, they are like my second family.”
Relatives also agree with this, with one stating “the staff are marvelous and so very caring I feel my husband is safe here.”
Jane Evans, manager at the home, said: “I think there are some noteworthy things. I often think a key factor is the ability to spend a day in one of the residents’ shoes to get a real understanding.
“Respecting each person properly is extremely important to us, and that means that individuals’ wider families are an important part of the home – when you take in a person, you take in the family too, in a metaphorical sense!”
The home has a relaxed environment, with a range of food options including homecooked local produce, plenty of activities and a monthly communion service.
There is work to be done on ensuring the individual needs of people is recorded in more detail and people or their representatives are involved in the assessment and review of their care.
