A NEW book about the landed gentry families of the Tivyside area will be published next week.

Entitled ‘The Faded Glory - The Tivyside squires and their mansions’, it is the work Beulah author Gerwyn Morgan and provides a glimpse into the lifestyle, during Victorian times, of the gentry families living in the area’s mansions.

Their lifestyle, according to Mr Morgan, may not have matched the scale and lavishness depicted in the television series ‘Downton Abbey’, but for most Tivyside squires and their families it was a pampered way of life based on substantial income earned in rents from estates of farms.

This allowed the squires to live in large country houses and elegant mansions serviced by a small army of servants.

Fifty Tivyside mansion are featured in the book which runs to over 250 pages with 150 photographs.

The book will be on sale in Awen Teifi Bookshop, Cardigan and Debbie’s Giftware in Newcastle Emlyn.
