A POPULAR New Quay pub renowned for its Sunday roasts has closed its doors for the final time after the couple who ran it announced their retirement.

Steve and Gaynor Howen took over the Cambrian Inn and Restaurant in 2007 and over the past fifteen years estimate that they have served thousands of Sunday dinners.

But now the hard-working husband and wife team have announced last orders – and say they are looking forward to putting their feet up and savouring life on the other side of the bar!

“Business has certainly not slackened off, if anything it’s become even more manic,” Steve told the Tivy-Side.

“On our final day last Sunday we served over a hundred roast dinners – it was absolutely mad.

“It was also quite emotional being our last day – but Gaynor and I are just getting a bit too old to run the business; that’s the truth of the matter.

“We don’t have any real retirement plans, but will head back to Shropshire, where I’m from.

“But we’ll still be keeping a caravan here in New Quay – I’ve been coming here since I was 14 and I’m 66 now.”

In a Facebook post, Steve and Gaynor said: “After 15 years, thousands of meals and drinks served and thousands of Sunday roasts plated up, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the Cambrian Pub & Restaurant has shut its doors for the final time.

“We would like to thank all of our staff, friends and loyal customers who have walked through our doors over the years.

“We hope to see you from the other side of the bar in the future.

“Now, it’s time to retire!

“Thank you for everything.

Steve & Gaynor.”
