Ceredigion County Council will be installing solar panels in its Aberystwyth office car park.

Planning permission has been granted for four sections of car port in the Canolfan Rheidol car park that will be covered in photovoltaic solar panels – two to the south of the building and two to the east.

There will be a total PV panel area of 1015 square metres, a report to committee states, which is around 615 solar panels with the car ports made of steel with a mono pitch roof.

The solar panels “will assist the local authority in reducing its carbon emission whilst also providing a renewable energy to service its office building and potentially sell off to the national grid,” members heard.

The report adds that it is not felt that there will be any impact on the street scene and general area.

The council’s development control committee approved the application at its meeting on Tuesday, September 27.
